William (Bill) Cochran
Born August 1, 1945 – “Old Bill” as he was referred to in the North Precinct where he’d spent a good part of his career, is a 23-year veteran of the SPD. Because of his age and disposition, Bill got saddled with the new recruits fairly regularly. It was no surprise then, that Miles was paired with Bill as his first partner.
Bill has a wife, Maria, and two boys, James and Robert, and a heart to share. He takes a liking to his new recruit and quickly adopts Miles and Celeste into his family. The Cochran’s are Godparents to Caitlyn and Miles Jr., the Stevenson children.
Bill is a no-nonsense kind of officer, but a warm and friendly one. He was known to take juvenile offenders to the side for what he referred to as a “strong talk,” when he felt he could have an effect rather than arrest them. A lot of times it worked. A lot of times it didn’t. That never stopped him. He didn’t believe the ”system” worked for most of the kids he dealt with. He’d try to save all of them anyway, but when they rejected what he had to offer, he let them have the full experience. In their time together, Miles witnessed a bunch of young men come up to Bill to thank him for what he’d done for them. Miles aspired to be as much like him as possible.
Then January 9, 1998 happened.
