Stained Brass

What is it about Seattle and serial killers? Or is the latest more of a vigilante? As bodies of drug lords begin littering the landscape, the residents breathe a sigh of relief, but not the prosecutor; he wants someone to prosecute. He nominates a well-known narcotics detective, Miles Stevenson, as prime candidate for the position.

The tale unfolds while Miles fights for his life in the courts and against the gangs who are similarly aligned in an effort to take him out. To seek out the truth, only Mile’s closest friend and partner, David Morrisey, is left to gather the evidence to clear him.

The heart of the story though, is the bond that develops between these two police officers. Miles, a tall middle-class white guy from Wyoming and David, a massive black graduate of the ghetto get thrown together by chance and become a formidable team within the SPD.

From the beginning, patrolling the streets in Seattle’s north end, they take on the burglars, the drug dealers, teenage sex trade, traffickers, and killers;  feeding them into a revolving door of injustice that spits them back out with nauseating regularity. Then, a series of mysterious fatalities occur, taking a toll on their numbers. Who’s responsible for these blessings? Or are they what they appear to be, accidental. Prosecutors can’t buy that; they say they have evidence to put all the blame on Miles’s shoulders.

A riveting tale of crime cooked up in the modern era and sprinkled lightly with humor to taste.
